Damn, this is rather disappointing for 10 years of doing this for the year. Can we get more singles (and albums maybe?) to review, Anime next season? I hope so.
Because this one is indeed from an Anime but one I did not watch, but heck, I'll give it just because we know of her last year, they are new, they are fresh, so why not? *giggles* I know right, indie stuff going major is hot now. How hot though? Let me charge up a nap and watch some livestreams first before we start. *laughs*
音楽 The Klassic Note Review
Kodama Hikari - CHARGE! [Single]
Anime Limited Edition | Regular Edition |
(For what is a pop single this electric theme is- No, not the maids, no way.)
Origin: For being under the MusicRay'n label where the majority of the solo music artists are Japanese voice actresses, Kodama Hikari here is one of few selected to be here for something interesting about them. If it isn't obvious enough listening to her songs, her string pop compositions are complimented by her own lyrics, and there is where this uprising singer-songwriter stands out, as I will mention more here. I was already impressed listened to her impactful songs last year for another Anime I actually watch so her style is no surprise to me, but what is more surprising is how she got me this time, and I'm glad I gave her a listen a few months ago when I first heard of it.
(1) CHARGE!
From the first chorus:
"Charge your heart!Charge with (a) kiss!Until the next morningUntil you say (you) give up (I'll) give you my loveCharge your heart!Charge with (a) kiss!Even in (your) dreamsBaby, are you running out (of juice)?(I) will fill (you) up now"
Straight away, we are greeted with a face-paced song and simple melody, and this is enough to hook me in. It also follows the typical pop song structure, keeping the bridge part short and choruses and verses with appropriate length, all while still putting in her own quirks here and there, say the pop is bopping and when it pauses to slap the bass, for example. It leaves an impression right off the bat given how well this song is produced, and the lyrics also stick to a simple yet strong theme of healing after a day's work receiving some love from that someone, as with relation to the maid café themed Anime series. Reading these from a guy's perspective suddenly becomes more romantic than ever as Kodama-san here as proven, and this makes it even more of a plus. The music video is just bonus right now, and pointing out the minor quirks will be like getting mad over someone who loves you, so I won't.
Rating: Fascinatingly Above Average
(2) Soda
From first chorus:
"(Fizzing noises)(Juicy noises)So sweet (it's) painfulYou are a strong flavour of soda(I) might just get used toAgain (I) want to reach with (my) hands"(Fizzing noises)(Juicy noises)(It's an) Unforgettable summer(My) dried up throat is sinking into this *love for you"
(*Inferred meaning; Originally read as "I love you", in Chinese)
My first impression of listening to this as I review on release date, is that it is eerily familiar to the dance pop styles of ORESAMA, if you know of them. Still, this still has her own feels, though not as great as the former, Kodama-san herself still manages to make a memorable song with a catchy melody without taking breaks, and the lyrics spell a romance story in summer, of longing and addicting love, similar to drinking down a cup of soda, yes. She got me good overall, though in some parts it felt a little off, but I am not going to knit pick just because of a familiar style and lovely lyrics to like.
Rating: Yearningly Average
Conclusion: This is the best thing I can get while waiting for ORESAMA to return, no joke. Serious answer though, I see potential in her lyrics which is less crude than nasuo's freestyle ways, they know this formula from the day the music label signed her in, so everything else should be even more smooth-sailing from here on. I look forward to more of her songs, and even if you did not watch the Anime, from her simple, short pop tunes to quirkiness and creativity in lyrics, any of these should convince you to give her a listen.
- Aozaki Shouhei, on the Klassic Note
(Man, have I ever been this hyped and happy giving a single? It has been a while. *laughs* Alright, Mocho's single wasn't that great it took a while to give her, so if had to be a competition between these singles... I'll give this, yeah. *dabs*)
THE PACKAGE
I did not even notice what I missed when I received the package last week since I delayed this review, and until I picked it up to take a look did I realize they changed out the inlet CD plastic for a neon one! Yeah, this is amazing, but would be better if the whole CD case will would be neon, but I guess they ran out of budget. *laughs* Anyways, the CD is also flipped as seen below to create the exterior feel of a charged battery, which is interesting of a concept, I'll give you that.
Inside though, not going to show more Kodama Hikari I guess we aren't fans of her anyways lol GOTTEM so let me talk about free gifts, I did end up going with not the Anime credit stuff because why would I, so Tower Records with the artist cover art sticker became my freebie for this single. I mean, I wasn't expecting bromide photos she really isn't my type (born 2000 by the way) so I'll just take anything that comes my way. Hopefully more bopping music, I'll take those first. *giggles*
Okay, simple review, all thumbs up, 10/10 can't get better, and I guess I will continue to jam to this for the rest of the week for positive charge! Yeah, this is going to be in practical use as I struggle to even stay alive on a Monday, so hopefully this will help in the following weeks I don't have new releases to review. Seriously though, this single is amazing I did not hesitate to give it at all, and pleased to meet you acquaintance Kodama-san I would like more of what your creative mind can provide us. I just stopped in the middle of that sentence to scratch my face *phew* that was close. *giggles* What's that meme?
Love interest? No. Love songs? Yes. *thumbs up*
