THE 2.99 STARS PROJECT (2015): Songs That Didn't Make The Cut…

Wednesday, 06 January 2016
(Please note that I do not intend to offend any listener/artist/production whatsoever, because this is purely my opinion, and shall not be used as social media discrimination in any other way. Information here shall stay here (c) Klassic Note Song Awards 2015-2016)

Good. Now that I got this out of the way... Welcome.

It's been another year, and I did say it's another year of tough choices when it comes to selecting songs for awards, rankings and so on, right? You shall know of the answer. Right now. Because I reject a lot of songs every year, within every review I do. Why? Why bother to accept songs only when I'm actually rejecting more songs than accepting them? Well, for an array of reasons as explained previously on "The Imperfections of a Song", so you can read that before you come here, or just take a look on why these songs (which you might like or not) are even on this list.

It's just like those songs got away. But then they aren't good. So what do I call these again?

Presenting to you: THE 2.99 STARS PROJECT, where you know of course that 3-star ratings are the minimum I give to any song in Klassic Note. Just... just read on. I've explained my reasons enough below.
(Note: This is not the best I can make it look. But then this is the first year, so I'm thinking of another way to present this for next year, so... yeah. Sorry. Reading the following is also not necessary.)

(In review chronological order, and those in * are re-accepted because I didn't reject them enough)
(Grouped by release for your reading convenience)
Song Name: Baka
Artist: KANA-BOON
Single/Album of Reference: Silhouette
Comment: It sounds too stupid? Besides that, this song is actually very catchy

Song Name: Garden
Artist: Horie Yui
Single/Album of Reference: World End no Niwa
Comment: Not catchy enough?

Song Name: Answer

Artist: moumoon
Single/Album of Reference: Refrain
Comment: Too generic in melody

Song Name:*Kimi to Iu Tokuiten

Single/Album of Reference: Outside of Melancholy
Comment: Awesome chorus, but man the rest of the song is tough to give chance to.

Song Name: Ano Sa, Ano Ne
Artist: Coalamode.
Single/Album of Reference: Nanairo Symphony
Comment: A little too much on speech than vocal melody in the song

Song Name: Toumei na Sakana

Song Name: *Spice
Artist: Tokyo Karan Koron
Single/Album of Reference: Spice
Comment: It's the middle of the song again, as usual

Song Name: Harumodoki

Song Name: Princess no Dassou Keikaku

Single/Album of Reference: Colore Serenata [2014]
Comment: Because the melody sounds familiar, and there's non-vocals

Song Name: Owaranai Imagination

Comment: Too traditional a melody to give four stars. Besides, the song format is a mistake as always.

Song Name: Umi ni Tsuite

Comment: If it weren't 7 minutes long, I'll be able to give it. The song got dragged too long, too much unnecessity.

Comment: It wasn't good enough, for being too long, and for being not standard in general melody.

Single/Album of Reference: Hao Hao Guo Sheng Huo
Artist: cozy diary
Song Name: Why don't you
Comment: Why don't I? Because it sounds too normal? An easy flaw to hit from cozy diary's songs, actually.
Song Name: Xiao Lu
Comment: Simple? I can understand the style, just not feel for the song enough.

Song Name: Cosmos no You ni
Artist: fhana
Single/Album of Reference: Comet Lucifer ~The Seed and The Sower~
Comment: Because it's fhana? Or else we'll expect a better insert theme song for the Anime? Sorry.

Single/Album of Reference: Centimeter
Artist: 7!!
Song Name: *Centimeter
Comment: Less epic than their last ballad song, and I can only give the chorus.
Song Name: Kimi Dake no Story
Comment: Too much tones for a simple melody. Pity that it's still a short song

Song Name: YOUR SONG
Artist: cinema staff
Single/Album of Reference: WAYPOINT EPBridge part is too bad for me to give. It hasn't been this bad, so might as well not give.

Song Name: Empty Bag to Gensou
Artist: Camping Trailer
Single/Album of Reference: OCEAN EP
Comment: Contradicting introduction, making whole song feel more epic than expected

Song Name: 4LIFE
Artist: SPYAIR
Single/Album of Reference: 4
Comment: Interesting idea to not get main vocals to sing, but still overall not passable.

Song Name: Enishi
Artist: Takagaki Ayahi

Comment: I blame the guy who played that piano. Ayahi's first song ruined by production.

Song Name: LOVE & LIFE
Artist: Goose house
Single/Album of Reference: LOVE & LIFE
Comment: The wrong Christmas song. The chorus was very good thoug. Maybe it's just me not liking Christmas-type songs.

Song Name: Anata ga Koko ni Ite Dakishimeru Koto ga Dekiru Nara
Artist: miwa
Single/Album of Reference: Anata ga Koko ni Ite Dakishimeru Koto ga Dekiru Nara
Comment: Not memorable and emotional enough. Unimpressive melodies don't stick don't get in the list.

Comment: Usual production, unusual outcome. I'm not impressed this time round. And this is supposed to be the topic song.

Song Name: Honryuu
Artist: SID
Single/Album of Reference: Honryuu
Comment: Not this year. Or hopefully next year. When I drop my standards for a short period of time. Or their next album.

Really, I swear, this is only a portion of what I could've rejected, and because they are close, and they are worth mentioning. I aim to make sure I talk about one every release, but that may not be possible.

Also, I've done up the compilations list by now, so be sure to check them out! As usual it's the SIDETRACK COMPILATION and this-year exclusive HAPPINESS COLLECTION that is taking some time to confirm, so if you have been waiting... I'm not retarded. I just need some more time. Especially with the distraction of new songs from the new year. Okay, cya guys next time.
